Ago | Sticker

One of Ago Industries largest clients is Hydro One. Hydro One was hosting a family picnic for its employees and Ago had a booth set up to showcase what they provide for the company to the kids of the families. One of the ways they promoted this was through a sticker. I was asked to design a sticker that represented what mom or dad does for a living. The sticker is a cartoon depiction of how mom or dad looks when they are on the job. I had to design the sticker following the standards of Agos’ clothing, making sure it was represented as closely as possible.

The Process

The Sketches

The first step of this project was to come up with a general concept of what the sticker would look like. The client wanted the sticker to be wearing the same gear a Hydro One employee would be wearing so I put the man in overalls, a hard hat and a Hi-Viz sweater. I tried two different variations for the stance as well to give the client more options. The sketch to the right was approved by the client so I then proceeded to open the file in Illustrator and begin the digital process of making the sticker.

Illustrator CC

The next step was to create the sticker on the computer using Adobe Illustrator CC. I uploaded the sketch into the program and started using the pen tool to bring the character to life. This step allowed the client to get better visual of the sticker and started the process of adding more detail to the character. I was also instructed to design a female version of the sticker.

Details

The client wanted to add more details to the stickers to show a more accurate depiction of what Ago does. They wanted me to add a reflective aspect to the yellow and silver tape. I also added the Ago logo to the hard hat. This version was almost complete but one last tweak needed to be done. The client did not like how the face looked too serious and asked that we change it to a smirk instead of a frown.

Final Product

Once I made the changes to the face the client was happy with the final product. The stickers are now ready for print. I exported the sticker as a PDF and PNG file for the client and made sure the settings were ready for print. This project allowed me to showcase my design skills and utilize my attention to detail. I enjoyed working with this client and bouncing ideas off of each other to create the final design. It challenged me and pushed me to create something I am proud of.
